Hey everyone! i just have a couple of questions, answer as much as you can please!! thanks in advance.

1. how old do you have to be to get into parsons school of design?
2. what are the 3 best fashion design schools in the USA?
3. What do they look for in incoming students, and how do they pick who to accept?
4. Is FIDM in L.A. a good school? did ppl who graduate there get good jobs?
5. If i want to be a really big designer, what college shouldi go to?
6. what should i start doing now to get experiance?

WOW!!!! I think there are a couple of really good designing schools in new York City…but I am not sure of what they are called. Right now, you should just be practicing and learning more about designing and sewing. You can get books on it and keeping up with the fashion world helps too!!

Should I go to Parsons Design School for undergrad or graduate studies?

I'm a highschool senior and I want to study fashion design, but the tuition for Parsons School of Design is about $30,000 a year and afterward I would still need graduate studies. So I was wondering if there were any design students who could help me decide whether it's worth the money to go to Parsons for undergrad first. Pleeaase help-I'm applying to colleges right now!

Why not apply to it and to several others and see where you get in and which offers you the most financial aid. If you get a great deal at Parsons, go. If not, keep it in mind for grad school. You can always go there for a summer session to see if you like it. (The summer sessions are, however, also expensive ….)

16 and need a job in retail, have people skills and love fashion, where can i go_?

Many stores require you to be high school graduate. I need to work durign the school year, i would only have limited hours, but i really need the money. Are thier any stoares that have locations in San Diego that I could apply?

You can trying filling out applications at the mall. I used to live in San Diego, but I didn't live there long. Because I didn't live there long I only know of a couple of places. You can try the gas lamp quarters. There's a lot of shopping stores and restaurants there. Infact, there is a mall at the gas lamp but I don't know what it's called. There is also fashion valley. They have a lot of clothing stores there. Also, you can try the Grossmont shopping center. There are a lot of nice places if that is what you are into.

I am graduating for a business school – but I want to be in a more fashion career focus, but my school does not have any good contacts in fashion.

Other than applying and sending my reume through the actual company website – do you know of any job search sites that are focused on fashion.

I have already googled it (oops! or should I say Yahoo Searched it!) and I see what the response is- but some you have to pay…I can't really pay…but maybe you have experience with it?

How can I get into the fashion industry?

I loooove fashion, but I didn't got to school for it. I graduated with a degree in Psych and am now in the financial industry and I hate what I do now, but it pays the bills. I don't really want to give up my salary, but realize I will have to start from the bottom. I'm what to be a fashion merchandiser. Who will give me a job so I can break into the industry?
I study the industry on my own through research online or asking questions in retail stores. I may not be an expert, but I wouldn't say I didn't know anything about the business. Plus, I am a talented and smart individual that can learn anything especially something I am interested in. When I was hired in the financial industry, I knew nothing but was hired and learned a lot and worked my way up the corporate ladder of my accord and skills. If I did it then, I can do it again and learn a new career.

good thing you chose fashion merchandising over anything else in the industry, (it's one of the easiest to get into, or so I'm told by my advisors) but like everything else, it still takes time.

you're best off by having at least 3~5 years of retail experience, even if it's just as a sales rep. then try working as an entry-level fashion operations assistant (or any position relevant to fashion merchandising) to a small company so you get all the behind-the-scenes looks into the industry. then apply as a fashion merch at a major corporation!

Becoming a Fashion Designer?

I see Fashion as a form of elegant art and unique Personality. I have been designing clothes since i was about 13 during my spare time. But i took a break for a while to and now and 18 and in June i graduate high school. I have always searched to do what i wanted to be but being a fashion designers seemed to far of a dream to accopmlish but that doesn’t mean i never gave my hopes on becoming the next hign end designer in my generation. I don’t know if its worth it and going to fashion school, i was thinking of leaving the U.S. and not go to college and start my line in Cali, Colombia, where the market is expanding. Luckily over many years my parents have worked hard and own two stores where people rent to sell merchandise in a tourist location. What i was thinking was to open my clothing line in one of thier stores and see how it goes, i think it is much easier over there since its much cheaper because i live in NY and its to expensive. its also helpful because my aunt in Colombia went fashion school and she can help me and i also sended her my designs and she said that i had a good eye and imagination. I have always dressed my mom when she asked my to pick out a oufit for her and have recieved numerous compliments from her friends. I would like to design everything and i know its gonig to take a huge amount of work but i’m willing to to do because i feel this is what i’m really truly good at. Also My dad says i have a Don in me that not many people have for colonges because i always knows what smells good for men and women. Do you think i have what it takes to become a fashion designer and is it a good idea?
Another thing i also know how to dress my self very good because it seems like all the ladys just love the way i dress especially my math teacher who always says what a great outfit aswell as other people. I’m a liitle worried about what my friends may think if i tell them that i want to design clothes since its mostly a girl thing but i feel, i have good loyal friends.

You sound a lot like me.

If you want it, you have to work for it. I’m not sure about the choices of fashion school since I’m also debating on that, but my own plans are to attend one of the state’s universities that have fashion merchandising, designing, and study business administration as well. If you haven’t already, talk to your councilor about it.

For the last question, I think that real friends support friends when it comes to things like this. If it makes you feel any better, not all designers dress well (I know it sounds awful, but use the word well instead of good when describing..I’m a grammar Nazi at times xD). Sometimes they’re too busy making people look beautiful to worry about their own appearance.

What courses do I need to take to become a fashion designer?

I am in grade nine and i am thinking of becoming a fashion designer when i am older. But i don’t know what courses I need to take in high school to become one. And would you have to take those subjects every year of high school until u graduate or just certain years.

Go to a college that has fashion designing and the counselor will lay out a plan for you for what classes you need to take, how long it is going to take and etc. There are no courses in high school that you can take other than art class. No you will not have to take those subjects every year of your high school, it is based on a semester so like three months, until you graduate. Good luck!

What are some high paying careers in fashion?

I am only a senior in high school, and I'm probably going to major in marketing or general business in college, but I know I want to work in fashion when I graduate. What are career paths that lead to a high paying career that has to do with style, for example an editor of a magazine or a stylist.

My daughter went to college to get a Fashion Degree.. Almost through with her classes she changed course. She realized she wasn't going to be the next Coco Channel and would likely only make a decent living in this industry.
However, her girlfriend is a known model and she makes good money… but she isn't home much, someone else is raising her child and she never eats.
