Here's my story:
I have been in college for almost 4 years, if not four already, and have just decided to drop out, follow my dreams, and enroll at a Fashion school, either FIDM or Art Institute-College of Design. I have wasted almost all of my Cal Grant B Award, so money is an issue.

Here's where I need help:
Do I transfer from my current college to a 4 year university with my Fashion program of choice or do I drop out and enroll at a Fashion school?

Which is more expensive, less expensive, smart decison, dumb decision, etc. Any advice is welcomed.

My plans and goals are to own a clothing store. I want to sell clothing, accessories, shoes, etc. I want a major/program that will teach me how to open and run my own clothing/retail store.
The above is my first dream.
My second dream/goal is to design my own clothing and sell it at my store.

What do u think?
My situation with the college I'm currently attending is that I have only taken regular undergraduate courses. I have not taken courses related to my field/major, therefore I still have a long way to go in order to get my Degree. I had to transfer like two or one year ago, but didn't because I didn't have all the courses required to transfer. I still don't because I'm like two semesters behind. I messed up big time. I was confused, depresses and gave up. But, I'm back and I'm ready to start all over.

I'm a student at FIDM and the first thing I have to say is don't drop out of school or transfer without getting a degree!!! FIDM gives you credit for it and you can graduate in one year instead of two (it's called the Professional Designation Program) and that will save you A LOT of money (I did it). If you really want to own your own store you should major in Business Administration if you aren't already because that will be the most important thing and then go to FIDM for Apparel Manufacturing Management (it's a major). I recommend FIDM over AI because FIDM requires their teachers to have industry experience as well as being able to teach and AI is responsible to stockholders so sometimes they aren't as concerned about the teaching but are more concerned with the money they get. I know quite a few students who have transferred from AI to FIDM. Good Luck!

which school is better for fashion merchandising?

I applied to the following six schools for fashion merchandising and i was just wondering which school would be the best school since the fashion industry is so competitive.

-Drexel University (accepted)
-University of Rhode Island (accepted)
-Philadelphia University (accepted)
-Purdue (still waiting)
-Marist College (still waiting)
-University of Delaware (still waiting)

I purposely didn't apply to any art schools. I am really having a hard time figuring this out. I like them all pretty equally. Thanks!

if so, any tips about schools or the career in general? anyting to help and aspiring fashion merchandiser?

Im not in the field but I hope to be . . . besides FIT there is also LIM (Laboratory Institute of Merchandsing) and if I had money I would love to go there . . . it's small college and in New York. I'm located in Florida and Florida State University have a merchandising program… its a good school and much cheaper and plan to apply there once I'm done with my A.A. Also another school offering that major is the Art Institute and they are located pretty much everywhere…. I'm trying to get a job in retail so I can work my way up with experience and hopefully a degree in merchandising =)

I have a degree in Communications, a degree I never used. I ended getting work in accounting and sales. Now I'm interested in doing marketing/merchandising in the fashion industry. I have been looking into schools and programs but does anyone know if I need to have a degree in order to get a job in the fashion industry.

No you do not. Since you already have a BA, that already looks good. I would look into the job you wants requirements then see if you even need to go to more school.

I’m thinking about changing my major into fashion merchandising. It seems like a really interesting major to get into, and I’m in love with fashion, shopping, and all that good stuff! I have a few questions though about what the future would hold for me if I did get a degree in that program such as:

Exactly what kind of jobs can I get?
Is the pay good?
Does it make a difference if I went to a fashion school or a 4 year baccalaureate program?

Plus any other info would be nice to know too! Thanks!

The pay is mediocre, I’d say about 40-50k
you can be a fashion buyer, fashion consultant, ROP Fashion Merchandising teacher, Retail store manager.

Stuff involving clothes in general. It does make a difference, I think? It would be preffered to go to fashion schools like FIDM in Los Angeles or Parson’s in New York
