Can any of you name me some art&fashion high schools in new york or new jersey. I know about High School of art and design in new york. do you have to pay for that high school?? If so how much??

Does that school cover the fashion feild b/c i checked the website and look under the academics section and i checked the art area and all it had was architectural design, cartooning and animation, graphic design and illustration, and the media program.

Is Parson's school of design a college??

Which one of these schools would be best to goto? I'm sooo stuck with this choice. I was also concidering:

• Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) – NYC

But I don't think I'll go there because I can't say I know anybody that actually made it in the fashion industry that went to that school except Daniel Vosovic but I think he only made one collection and gave up.

Three of the best fashion schools in the world are in the cities you're considering. They are Parsons School of Design (which you have on your list), the Fashion Institute of Technology (both are in NYC), and Central Saint Martins (that's in London.) Those are the elite of the elite. Parsons and FIT, especially, are very strong and well respected.

FIDM is big and well known, due to its exposure on tv, but it is not well respected in the industry. AIU as well, I am not loving that school. Those two schools market themselves well. They've got flashy ads. But they are not well respected in the industry. That's not to say you wouldn't go places if you went there – if you have a strong portfolio and do good internships, you very well could – but if you went to a place like FIT or Parsons, you'd have a head start re: power of the name, connections in the industry, powerful professors, networking and etc.

Kent State is also a strong fashion school. If you want one in LA, the strongest there is Otis College of Design.

The very idea that no one who made it in the industry came out of FIT… I want you to have another look at the list of alumni from FIT. Those who went there and made it in the fashion industry include Calvin Klein, Norma Kamali, Marisol Deluna, Carolina Herrera, David Chu (Nautica), Leon Max (Max Studios), Nanette Lepore, and many, many others. Just because their students get hired into the elite fashion studios, rather than going on reality tv shows, does not mean that they aren't successful. I'd say it's the reverse – they're able to make it in the industry without having to go on reality tv shows. FIT has an 85% placement rate into the fashion industry. That is flat-out amazing, for that field.

Have I talked them up enough? :LOL: I just fear when someone says they'd pick FIDM over FIT because FIDM has more successful alumni. That's far from the truth.

oh and how is new york city? is it as dirty and dangerous as everyone says?

In Manhattan, you will not find anything under $2,500/month unless it's a shoe box with a little crumb of a kitchen in a not safe area.

Some parts of NYC are dirty, and crowded. Dangerous? Hunny, anywhere we are, go.. anything can happen. All the stuff you see in movies about the city is pretty much bull. They make it seem like someone working as a secretary could afford a nice spacious 1 bedroom apartment in Manhattan.. which is really worth like 10,000/month (27 Dresses is an example) I would recommend visiting NYC before you move there.. maybe study the streets, and stuff like that..

Some parts of Brooklyn are pretty safe, don't believe what you see in movies.. that brooklyn is all ghetto, dirty, and dangerous. Some parts are..

If you don't mind going on a subway for about 40mins to get to school in Manhattan, then you could maybe try the neighborhood BAY RIDGE in Brooklyn.. which is safe, nice, and you could find a nice 1 bedroom apartment for 900-1,500/month…

sorry if I'm not making sense, im watching tv and writing this.. lol

if you want a public high school look into: high of for the fashion industries, high school of art and design and high school for performing arts…all do required portfolio/auditions and you must reside in one of the 5 boroughs.
