What clothes could i get that are cheap before i go to New York, So I have some fashion. Is it going to be cold in April in New York and Washington DC, I am going on the second week of April. You will find New Yorkers and most major Eastern urban centers can dress "in fashion" by wearing everything from nice designer (or knock-off) jeans to business-casual (pants suits, sweaters and slacks) to dresses for dinners, fancier occasions.

Temperature in April has run from week-ends as late as April 8th when the season opener in baseball has been snowed out to days that seem like early summer.

I would use WeatherBug or something like that and check the 10-day forecast as you get closer to this coming April. If I could, or anyone elsse could, tell you with complete accuracy how the weather will be 6 months from now, we could also predict with the same certainty who will win the World Series 2-3 weeks from now.

In Midtown Manhattan with a room mate you could get off easy with paying roughly $3500 a month plus utilities and parking. Or you could pay $2000 for a nice clean small studio.

Make sure you arrive a few weeks before school starts and then go shopping to get your apartment all set up once you get there. It will be a lot more fun!

Since you're into fashion, I'm guessing you'll want cool stuff. There are tons of amazing furniture stores at all price levels like – ABC Carpet & Home, West Elm, IKEA, vintage shops, unique little boutiques, etc. Hard to recommend without knowing your style. You could bring some of the must haves, like mattresses, sheets, and bring stuff you love and need from home. Or just order the mattress and other necessities to be delivered the day you arrive.

My cousin from NJ went to the Art Institute in New York and took restaurant management and he loved it. But I have heard both good and bad things about it. Comments, please!

I went to the AIH (Houston) and recieved a degree in Visual Communication. Even though this was 12 years ago, I had friends who were in the fashion design program. They loved it. It is intense, and you cant miss any classes or you will fall behind. Its worth your money depending on what area you want to be in. Two of my friends ended up as buyers for department stores. One did go to new york but the competition is fierse there!. I think you need to figure out what area you want to work end AFTER you finish school and then decide. The AI is good for some areas, but not for all.
