My son is applying to national universities around the top 20 level. His father got married to a woman who has three kids older than my son and the first one behaved in a delinquent fashion and didn't go on to college. She had a bad background, so I don't blame her. The parents haven't planned for the next two kids. It looks like one won't go and the other could go to a lower level school on scholarship.

My son has numerous relatives who attended top 20 schools and two who are professors at one of these schools. But, they don't ask about these people.

I'm not sure how this step-sibling information figures into determining whether my son is a match for these colleges. Why do you think colleges ask for this information and how would you handle this step-sibling information? My son has no full siblings.

Its identifying how likely that student will attend that school if he or she gets accepted, if anything, versus going to thier biggest rival that you already have an alegience to or are you really interested in a school that close/far. I once heard a reference to how well the older brother was doing but more often than beyond the standard "how many students got accepted out of how many applied" (the thing parents like to hear about) they also get judged how many accepted the invite to attend. Its not going to make or break your son if he doesn't have any siblings. Just say no siblinings, or just skip that section on the aplication. More often than not its most likely not even looked at but entered for data mining purposes, mainly because the school's PR team is looking to see if they are building a legacy. And if Admission's staff recgonizes a name and sees a legacy then yes the almuni office will be contacted and the aplicatant's visit will be made more cushy but with all the other information your submitting its not going to hurt you at all.

Oddly enough, you sound like a mini me as a freshman. I'm a senior now so as for your outfit/ fashion advice, I would definitely suggest a shirt that billows out slightly like this one:

It always is a cute look if you want to hide a tummy fat, I have it too so I basically live in those type of tops. But you can also never go wrong with a t-shirt and a cute pair of dark jeans. Light jeans draw attention to thighs so I suggest dark ones.

Oh yes, if you're thinking about shoes, stay away from flip-flops. They are hazardous and you're more than likely to lose one in the hall while walking. A cute pair of ballet flats are much more sensible and look cute with many outfits.

I had posted a question on the same exact topic about a month ago. Are you going to Parsons? Because I am starting this fall! I am a complete beginner also. I would say definitely do it if you have the passion for it. You may not get a job fast right afterward, but there are always places where you can expand your creativity and sell your own clothing, like on etsy.com. If that is not enough, you can always consider going back for more classes to gain more knowledge while having a day job. This is just my take on it. I hope this helps you.

FIT is the best like the other poster stated. If your in NY, you will get a great deal on tuition. It still isn't all that much if your out of state. It is a bargain, look at NYU it is over 50k a year. You get a great education, and will get tons of information. I would suggest getting to be an intern to help you get experience. Good Luck!
